This Is How We Roll!

Students enjoyed a morning of bowling fun compliments of NRV Superbowl in Christiansburg.  With guidance from our P.E. teacher, Ms. Shaver, students shared in the excitement of strikes, spares, and sportsmanship at the bowling alley.
Mystery Readers have surprised our class over the past three weeks.  Clues were given to the class before each mystery reader was revealed.  Students enjoyed having these special guests sharing their favorite stories!
During math, students transitioned from money to place value by playing the games Race to $1.00 and Race to 100, two simple games that reinforce trading out ones (pennies) for a ten (dime).  They also created models of numbers with tens rods and ones units to illustrate numbers.  Using manipulatives has helped students develop proficiency with number sense.  Place Value Scoot was an activity we used to reinforce this knowledge.

We also began a unit on measuring with nonstandard units.

Even Mrs. Cromer got in on the action!  Students traced and measured members of our school community to complete an activity on estimating and finding actual measurements of familiar people.

Literacy and Language Arts Snapshots...

After learning about George Washington Carver's many uses for sweet potatoes and peanuts, students used peanut butter as an adhesive for birdseed on their bird feeders.  What a fun spring project!
