So Many Ways to be Smart!

So many ways to be smart.
With your hands, your feet, your head, your heart -
So many ways to be smart!
Students practice yoga- this move is called "Hug it Out".
Students love practicing numbers on whiteboards (not to mention the paper that is saved!).

Students work on putting letters in alphabetical order to prepare for using reference materials in the future.

First Full Week!

What an exciting week!  Students worked diligently through the mornings before the extreme heat released school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  We had great full days Thursday and Friday reviewing citizenship, counting, and writing!

Students use problem solving skills to put the alphabet in order on the ABC Slider Puzzle.

A classmate who has been absent from school was on our minds all week.  Students created cards to send love and fill his bucket when he returns home from the hospital.

Sweetness!

Students practice communicating "hello" without disturbing others.

First Days and Open House

I love the start of school!  The clean, organized classroom, back to school supplies, a bright new rug (thank you Check Elementary PTO), new technology to use...and of course a fabulous group of first graders ready to learn!

I appreciate each family's show of support by bringing students to open house!

Students complete a graphic organizer on how they will get home the first day of school.

The first weeks of first grade students are learning new procedures, routines, and expectations for their new classroom.  This group was ready to go from the moment they walked in the door!

The InFocus Touch Display was a hit as students interacted during morning meeting.
Students created a graph indicating the number of boys and girls in our class.
Brain Breaks are an important part of our day!
Have you heard of Jitter Juice?  In first grade, we believe it makes the first day of school jitters vanish in no time!

Making new friends and reconnecting with existing friends is a fun and important back to school time.  I love to hear students talk with one another.  Getting to know students and getting them to know each other helps establish a fun, respectful, and safe learning environment.

Playground fun!

I can tell this year will be full of awesome adventures!
